The National Women’s Studies Association invited me to present my story: “From Mortar Shells to Geraniums: Afghan Women Foment Rebellion,” at their national conference in June 2006 in Oakland, California. Participating is especially significant to me as I was one of the founding members of the organization 30 years ago, when women were still at the back of the bus and the feminist movement was but a twinkle in our eyes.
